My Sick Dog.

Recently my dog Roscoe had a very scary moment. He lost control of his body, and rolled off the couch. Laying on the floor, he shook with the look of fright in his eyes. He just wanted to be held, but couldn’t move. My wife picked him up and held him as he seemed lifeless. We decided we should rush him to the vet. On the way his breathing was hard, his temperature seemed high, and he was dripping saliva trying to cool down. Then all at once, as quick as it came on, it was over. We kind of knew what was wrong, but hearing the vet say it made it more concrete. It was a seizure. Not sure what triggered it, or if it would happen again, but since it was very mild, there was nothing they could do. I hope he doesn’t have any more. You hate to see your best friend sick, but he sure did enjoy the pampering.

It’s time to start thinking about the type of weather the month of March is going to bring us. February was pretty much a wash. I haven’t brought out my snowblower yet this month. I will this weekend just to clean up the few inches we accumulated over the past week. March is really scaring me though. It can be a real snowy month. I’m going to predict that march will come in like a Lion this year. We’ve had it too good for to long. It’s time for winter to unleash it’s fury.

The Cell Phone Reaction

For the longest time I have been observing the response of people when their cell phone rings. I know, to much free time on my hands. The most amazing is the surprised and ticked response. That’s when someones cell rings, and before they answer it, they look at it like “that’s weird someone’s calling me”. Then they get ticked that their cell rang, and ticked at the person calling. When they answer their cell, they are just as nice as can be. I don’t understand that. Why would you have a cell if it ticks you off when someone calls it. How about not giving your number out? I think they are stuck on the security of have a cell so they can communicate, but don’t like others calling them. How would anyone know that? I like to receive calls personally. After all, why have it if your not going to use it?

Snow Plows Frustrate Me!

I don’t understand. Why is it on route 81 when the roads are clear for the most part you see snow plows everywhere, and when the roads are horrible, nothing? There was a plow plowing bare roads this morning. Tonight the roads were literally black ice, and covered with snow. No plows, and no salt for 40 miles. I will never understand the reasoning behind this. Every year it’s the same thing. I feel I need an explanation since it’s my money that pays for this service. The sad thing is, a few minutes after I went through the Brewerton area which had black ice on the road from light snow and heavy traffic, there was an accident involving a tractor trailer, which could have been avoided had the state sent out plows with salt. It’s very frustrating.

It’s only a matter of time when the terrorist figure out the ultimate attack on Americans and the world. People like me who do not live in dangerous parts of the world. Who do not hang out where there are huge crowds. Who do not live near likely targets, except for the nuke plant down the lake, i’m pretty safe, right? Wrong! What we don’t understand is that the one place that nearly all people go every day is the most unsecure place on the planet. The infrastructure is fragile at best. The security is nonexistent to weak. The most secure places are vulnerable, and easily brought down. When it is brought down we will all suffer dearly since our daily lives depend on it. I’m speaking of the internet. Think about it. How boring would life be? Going back the archaic ways of communication, paying bills with checks, and just keeping up with everyday life with our friends. No more Youtube, no more Facebook, no more email. Pay for stamps? No way. If and when terrorist figure out (which I wouldn’t doubt they already have the ability) how to bring the internet down, life as we know it will come to a screeching halt. Then what? Think of the implications it could have on our economy. Our trust in Homeland Security. Our trust in our government to protect us. It would be the ultimate attack, and it would hit us where it hurts.
Kind of scary, right?

Off Shore Wind Farm

You might not have heard that there is a proposal for a wind farm offshore in Lake Ontario. The 500 megawatt wind farm, which could supply electricity for 200,000 homes, has stirred quite a controversy. Though it would be a sight to see, there seems to be a number of environmental concerns. I am amazed with wind farms, but are they what you want to see looking out your beach house patio door? Representative Christopher Lee, R 26th District sheds a lot of light on the subject. January Holding On

At midnight the temperature was -7 and dropping. You don’t hear any snowmobilers riding outside since it’s way too cold to ride.

NWS Wind Chill Chart

Just for giggles, here is the wind chill chart from the National Weather Service. Lets say your riding at 40 mph, the wind chill would be -41. I have heard people say they have actually froze, and cracked their false teeth from riding in those kinds of temps. If you have any bare skin it will get frost bite in 30 minutes. I’m cold sitting in my house. No way could I ride tonight. Hot chocolate anyone?

Mild January

Ok, so January didn’t seem so bad, at least on the eastern lake shore. East of the lake a few miles it was a little more wintry… ok, a lot more wintry. I guess that’s to be expected. February is usually the worst month, so let’s see what it dishes out. We did have a strange occurrence a few weeks ago. A rafter of turkeys came into the backyard, digging around for food. We usually see that more towards the end of February when food is scarce. Hope that doesn’t have a deeper meaning.

The cold weather with little snow fall has been great for ice fishing. Hopefully it will continue since there’s not much else to do right now. I’ll go out on Sandy Pond soon during the 34th Annual Sandy Pond Sportsman’s Association Ice Fishing Derby 2/13 and 2/14 and take pictures and video for everyone.
